抓住中国中产阶层的商机

麦肯锡公司一个新研究因为标题中“中产阶层”吸引了很多注意力:《中产阶层:重新定义中国市场》(The Value of China's Emerging Middle Class)。如何定义中国的中产阶层,这是个广泛争议的问题。不过麦肯锡研究着重于商业,目标相对简单明了:界定这个财富和可支配收入在增长的消费群体,分析他们的购买力对中国市场会有什么样的影响,以及研究其中的商业机遇。

麦肯锡研究认为,尽管目前77%的城市家庭年收入少于25000元人民币,但到2025年仅有10%的城市家庭收入少于25000元。它把财富阶层分为:贫穷阶层(25000元以下),下层中产阶层(25001-40000元),上层中产阶层(40001-100000元),大众富裕客户(100001-200000元),以及全球富裕客户(大于200000元)。从图1我们可以看出,由下层中产阶层和上层中产阶层组成的中产阶层飞速增长,在2025年将占79.6%。麦肯锡指出:“届时,中国的城市家庭将成为全球最大的消费市场之一,每年的消费能力高达20万亿元。”

对于这几个财富阶层的动态演变,麦肯锡模型的预测(图2)是:2011年左右,下层中产阶层诞生,人数将达约2.9亿,这个阶层的增长将在2015年达到顶峰,总购买力达到4.8万亿元。第二次演变发生在未来十年,到2025年,上层中产阶层人数将达到5.2亿,总可支配收入达到13.3万亿元。

麦肯锡指出,中国的中产阶层对比大多数发达国家有两个特点,首先,中国中产阶层年龄较低,而发达国家收入最高的通常是中年人。这是因为,在中国高收入工作通常需要较高的教育水准和培训,而年龄较大的一代人教育水平普遍较低,新一代人则享受较好的高等教育。第二,未来城市的中产阶层,无论从规模还是消费能力,都要远远高于目前的城市富裕人群。麦肯锡提醒,为了抓住商机,公司应了解随着他们的收入增长,他们的储蓄和消费模式将如何发生变换。

麦肯锡研究虽然讨论了哪些消费类别会增长较快,但它并未提供更为具体的商业层面分析和战略建议。如果想了解具体如何应对这种变化,我们不妨先参考管理学者对美国市场的见解。在全球财富普遍增长的情况下,美国也正在发生类似的财富阶层变换,对这一市场的分析目前已经深入到战略与营销层面。在2005年4月哈佛《商业评论》中,保罗·努内斯、布莱恩·约翰逊、蒂莫西·布林在《把东西卖给富起来的大众》论文中指出,美国正在出现一个“富裕大众”,随着收入增长,过去被认为处在多个传统细分市场中的客户正集合成一个有价值的大众市场。他们提出的七条新原则是:占领新兴的中间地带;为所有人提供“近乎”相同的产品;生产只适合特殊场合的“日常”用品;推出新的所有权模式,让大众能够享受货真价实的奢侈品;提供投资性的新型消费品;为大众提供本地服务;尽量减少促销开支。

While poking around the BlogHer site, I found what must be the definitive list of blogs for moms. I provide it below. If you know a mom, please forward this list to her. I’m pretty sure she’ll find something of interest. Here is the permalink:
